Bukit Galing

In the quiet folds of Kuantan, where the city’s hum fades into birdsong and the air turns cool with altitude, Bukit Galing rises like a whispered promise. It is not just a trail—it is a journey through time, through mist, through memory.

There are many ways to begin, but most find their path beside Jalan Haji Ahmad, where the forest leans in and the trail begins to breathe. It winds past Bukit Sekilau, brushing against the edges of history and leading you gently upward. Before you step into its embrace, a permit from Kuantan Forestry is required—a small ritual of respect for the land that holds stories older than our own.

As you climb, the terrain rises and falls like a heartbeat—steep, rugged, and alive. The forest opens in places to reveal its secrets: the soft rush of Sekilau Fall, the quiet dignity of a British-era dam built in 1941, and the Bukit Galing Peak Viewpoint, where the world stretches wide and the wind carries the scent of salt and leaves.

The trail asks for preparation—good shoes, water, patience. It can be slippery when the rain visits, and the hills do not yield easily. But for those who walk with care, the summit offers a view that stills the breath: Kuantan city shimmering below, the South China Sea reaching out like a silver ribbon.

Hidden Waterfall: A Quiet Escape

Deeper into the heart of Pahang, where green folds into green and silence becomes song, the Hidden Waterfall of Bukit Galing waits. It is a place where time slows, where mist curls around your ankles, and where the sound of cascading water becomes a lullaby for the soul.

The trail is gentle, welcoming hikers of all ages and skill levels. Families walk together beneath the canopy, children pointing at butterflies, elders breathing in the peace. The forest here is lush and generous, offering glimpses of wild orchids, rustling leaves, and the occasional flash of a bird’s wing.

And then, the waterfall—cool mist rising, water tumbling over stone, a quiet oasis tucked away from the city’s rush. Some come to photograph, some to picnic, some simply to sit and listen. All leave with something lighter in their hearts.

How to Find Your Way

On Foot: Begin at Dataran Kuantan and walk east along Jalan Besar. After 1.5 km, turn left onto Jalan Teluk Sisik. Another kilometer brings you to the entrance of Taman Polo, where the trail begins.

By Bus: From the city center, take Bus No. 1 or 7 toward Taman Polo. After a 20-minute ride, disembark and follow the signs into the forest.

By Taxi or Grab: Enter “Hidden Waterfall Bukit Galing, IM 8, Taman Polo, 25200 Kuantan” into your app. The ride takes about 15 minutes. Once dropped off, follow the trail into the trees.

The Summit Trail

From Lorong Sekilau, the trail to Bukit Galing’s summit begins with a promise and a challenge. The path climbs steadily, steep and wild, asking for effort and offering reward. In about 45 minutes, you’ll reach the top—where the city lies below like a painted map, and the sky feels close enough to touch.
