Description

Step into the rare air of Borneo’s highest peak, where the granite crown of Mount Kinabalu rises above drifting clouds and ancient forests. This overnight ascent is more than a climb; it’s an immersion into a UNESCO World Heritage Site, guided by seasoned coordinators and supported by porters who lighten your load so you can focus on the journey. Every detail—permits, insurance, entrance fees, and mountain guide charges—is woven seamlessly into the package, leaving you free to chase the summit.

The Experience

  • Ages 17–80
  • Duration: 2 days, 1 night
  • Live guide: English
  • Accommodation: Laban Rata Resthouse (shared dormitory)
  • Meals: 5 included (packed lunch/dinner on Day 1; supper, brunch, and late lunch on Day 2)
  • All ground transfers included
  • Certificate upon completion

Day 1 — Into the Mountain Your adventure begins at dawn, with a hotel pickup in Kota Kinabalu and a two-hour drive to Kinabalu Park Headquarters. Registration requires your passport or ID, a ritual that marks the start of the climb. After collecting your packed lunch and meeting your mountain guide, you’ll transfer to Timpohon Gate—the threshold to the trail.

The trek to Laban Rata stretches 6 kilometers through shifting landscapes: mossy forest, cascading streams, and towering trees. Porters are available (MYR 14/kg) for those who wish to travel light. By late afternoon, you’ll arrive at Laban Rata Resthouse, where dinner is served from 4:30 to 7:00pm. The evening is yours to rest, acclimatize, and prepare for the summit push.

Day 2 — The Summit Awakening At 1:30am, climbers rise in darkness, fueled by a simple supper before setting out with headlamps and determination. The trail narrows, the air thins, and the granite path leads toward Low’s Peak at 4,095.2 meters. Only those reaching Sayat-Sayat Checkpoint before 5:30am may continue—timing is everything.

At the summit plateau, dawn breaks in a blaze of color, revealing sweeping horizons and the raw majesty of Kinabalu. Photos here are more than souvenirs; they are proof of endurance. The descent retraces your steps to Laban Rata for breakfast, then onward to Timpohon Gate.

Back at Park HQ, lunch awaits at Balsam Café, followed by the presentation of your climbing certificate—a tangible reminder of the mountain conquered. By late afternoon, you’ll return to Kota Kinabalu, weary yet exhilarated.
